Student Feedback
Education and World Order (EDEF684) |
“I absolutely LOVED this class!! The course readings were diverse and pulled from multiple disciplines and perspectives. The progression of materials and connections made to larger systems thinking was well developed and really helped me to put into perspective the complexity of education in relation to politics, economies, industry, sexism, racism, Eurocentric/Anglo dominance, North/South issues of equity and voice, Indigenous knowledge and methodologies, and the continuation of colonialist dominant structures which still persist to this day. The weaving of the awareness around all of these subjects from the micro to the macro effects and byproducts of each makes me want to delve deeper into each and untangle more of what it means to be in "education" in this day and age. Definitely a course for self reflection as we are all products of our cultural constructs and biases.”
“This was my favorite course that I have taken at UH so far. It gave me the opportunity to learn about and reflect on the state of our world, and in effect, look at my place in the world. The class was motivational.” “I loved the real-world applicability of this course. We delved into issues that are important as educators to understand, such as sustainability, epistemology and decolonization. This kind of course is exactly why I applied to graduate school. It gave me context to the inequities that are perpetuated in our societies and education systems, and made me think about how to unravel these problems.” |

“The professor was EXTREMELY knowledgeable about the topic. He broke a huge amount of information down into digestible chunks and offered a diverse number of tech-assisted modalities to demonstrate students' understanding. Prof Edwards clearly has the students' best interests at heart and was willing to adjust his personal schedule to accommodate specific
student needs.” “Brent is very easy to get in contact with, will answer questions, and is very intelligible in the field. Introduction to Education Policy Studies (EDEF675) |
“I found that the materials concerning theory and how it connects to actual examples of practice in the field of education was most helpful. This brought clarity to an often ambiguous and complicated subject. I also found that Professor Edwards understanding demeanor towards student concerns and life challenges was exemplary. Not only is Professor Edwards a subject matter expert and consummate professional, he is a faculty member that truly cares about those in his charge.”
